"...A hill climb would've been a cool idea...." Yes, but a hill descent takes horsepower out of the event. It does bring balls into the equation though...

LOL, one day I was clipping along pretty good up the hill (30mph++) and I got cocky and said to myself there's no way I'll have to go into 2nd gear. . . . . .but nope, still had to do 2nd gear for a short stint near the top. Later I spoke to the guys that were behind me (a bunch of BMW MINIs) and they said no way they would emabarrass me and pass me on the hill. Thanks guys ! (I am sure even they had to downshift to 4th gear ;-) It was steep. A hill climb would've been a cool idea. ~ 30 minutes in a Mini is more therapeutic than 3 sessions @ the shrink. ~ For Sale or Trade: 1961 Land Rover Series II 88" -$5k or a Mini Mike NB, Canada

Great pic Rick- I see the Mississippi in the background, what is that a lake in the foreground ? And one tall grain elevator and one hi-rise, is that our host hotel ?
Looks just like a typical mid-west town, eg: American Graffiti ?
What a pleasant change from a mountain top or downtown L A-
Be there or be square !!

2009 is only 5 hours away for us. We have many memebers already with time off next year. Hosting one of these is not easy by far. I wish them luck. They have been planning for I think 4 years. yeah for them for doing it. I won't ever again. And remember the Hormel Spam factory and museum is only 1 hour 22 minutes east of Winona. Got to go there!!! Cathy Woelfle "It's not a hobby, It's an obsession"

We'll be going from the west coast of Canada to the 2009 meet. Winona looks to be a terrific site for the gathering - in its heyday, Winona was the weathiest city per capita in the USA and much of the early architecture is still to be enjoyed. Several others from B.C. are also planning on attending And, I'll volunteer to help out during the event. Meets always need a few volunteer helpers from the attendees. Felt really badly for J-kar in Irvine. He didn't get a chance to speak about 2009 until 10 minutes to 12 midnight. At that point the banquet attendees were plumb wore out. Promotion will have to be through clubs and web sites such as this. Also, stay tuned for news about MMW 2010. I have a hunch it will be within 250 miles of home.

pfft, Alex, try to find me on the 2004 picture, lets see if you're that good. btw, i didnt have the clubby at that time i agree the guy talking about the 2009 event was rather cryptic and vague. he made the DaVinci code look clear and simple. i dont plan on going but mostly because its just too far...

We'll see about next year being the biggest... those I've spoken to so far have not been enthused by the p*ss-poor and disorganised sales job done at the MME banquet, and I can think of at least 5 sets of regulars who will not be attending.
The proper panoramic shots done by Crabtree are truly fantstic - I treasure my copies and find it easy to pick out the faces, even at the back. Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

hey Rick, i just went and counted the 04 east meets west picture because i was sure there where more than 199 pictures... i counted 201 this year's picture at MME is not as good as others, mainly because of the landscape. it had a little hill which prevented the top row to form a half circle so the minis in the ends appear to be very far...

Hi Dean, These group photos generally don't provide idividual images that permit positive IDing of folks (except in the near rows maybe), except for the true panoramic shots or the best of stitched shots. I've always parked at the back in the panoramic shoots since I know what my Mini looks like however I'm not much farther ahead in IDing others...at least the rows are generally separated sufficiently to get a look at almost all the Minis. Of those in my limited collection, the panoramic shot of 199 Minis/MINIs and people at MMEMW in '04 is really very good considering its scope. So too the MMEMW shot in '99 with 73 cars and people in Colorado Springs and a little less so the MME '00 shot with 119 cars and people in Quebec. The stitched photo from MMW '03 in Victoria with 101 cars and people was really good from a little digital camera. The poorest photos are those taken as a single still image, especially those trying to get "scenery" in the background, e.g. MMW '96, '98 and '01. Bottom line is that you still need a print from the photographer for your best view. Having said that I like the group photos and have several framed from past MMs though not from MMW '97, MMW'05 and MMW '06 as none were taken. Really looking forward to MMEMW 2009 in Winona, Minnesota topping 200 Minis/MINIs. Rick
