My 1.3 SPI was doing something similar last week.

I did not try to fix the vacuum lines, I just replaced the elbow connectors and the line between the trap and the ECU. It only cost me around $20.00.

In addition, I took some compressed air and blew out the trap to see if it was clogged. (seeing that I do not have a compressor, I used some of the compressed air you would use on your computer or other electronics. Works like a charm!)

It was well worth the cash because now it is running the way it should, and I know that all the connections are in good condition and should last for years to come.

If at first you don't succeed, "Blow It In Place ".

also check the vacuum line from the manifold to the fuel trap. And, check the vacuum line from the manifold to the air cleaner assembly.

My Mini's are un-officially sponsored by Coor's brewing company.

The small diameter vacuum line from the ECU to the fuel trap behind the throttle body has either fallen off or is damaged. Fix this and enjoy your car.
