I was hoping to reverse the CVs, (left side to right side) add new ball bearings & run it for another couple of years, however, these looked a bit too bad even for emergency spares! Hunter2 gave me a set (thanks Sir!) now they are reassembled , greased & new gaiters. Will don them when I get back from Post Falls, Idaho this week-end. Martin.

Could have been beat on when installed. I had a cv that had a kink when I took it out and moved it by hand and when I took it to my cv guy that changed them out for like $30 labor (too cheap for me to mess with) he said the old one had been beaten so bad it was not serviceable. My Mini's are un-officially sponsored by Coor's brewing company.

Or possibly struck by lightning??? Yikes. "Hang on a minute lads....I've got a great idea."

And yet another! And there was splinters of steel among the gaiter's on one side. One spider is very rusted - seemingly it had probably been run without a gaiter on, being lubricated by Idaho rain & desert sand (before the earlier owner did the cosmetic repair/grease job). Note the 'blue' around the wound indicative of high contact pressures & temperatures. M.

Just changed these for a friend - he said there was a clicking noise on full lock. I wonder why. The worst I have ever seen. Sad thing is he said the Mini had only done 12K miles when he bought it & he put on about 100 miles before noticing the noise. The previous owner had ground flats on the drive shaft presumably thinking there was a way of unscrewing the joint. Instead of finding out how to repair the joint he had resorted to packing the CV (& most of the gaiter) with grease - I don't know if it was CV joint grease or regular moly grease. (Anyone want them for a black museum?) Martin.
