I broke down and drove up the hill and picked up one, two actually.  They said the MPI one works and is much better quality, so I bought one and a regular one for the spares drawer in case this ever happens again for some reason. Going to do the install tonight.

I sealed my intake/exhuast gasket before. I fought the tuning of the car for a month before I scrapped the damn thing and just bought a new one. No repair is like a replacement.

Just my 2 cents. They are pretty cheap gaskets.

Just to clarify, there is just a mar in the surface of the composit gasket.  You can see the metal mesh on part of it about half a tumbnail in size.  The gasket isn't torn all the way through to the surface of the head.

I know that Napa exhaust gasket paste will work for that purpose and I do have some, I just may try it tonight.  I do know that once it sets there is no repositioning it ever, and it is a royal pain to get off the manifolds once its stuck on there and you need to replace the gasket.

I knew I should have called you!

I vaguely remember reading that you can carefully cut the gasket out and replace it for just that intake.  But then, you don't have a spare lying around.

I am a fan of Caterpillar's own gasket goop.  It is oooey, goooey, good.  Try it.  Make sure the guy at the Cat parts counter knows that it is going on a mini.  Then ask, since they now own Rover Parts, for a MK IV turn signal switch.  Let me know how that works out.

Doh!  I was in Stockton all day yesterday and easily could have stopped by and picked it up.

I think I'm going to try the blue Hylomar today - got to get it back on the road.

I'd head over to NAPA and ask the guys what they'd recommend for a quick fix.  But you know deep down that you really should take it all apart and swap it out.  I have an extra sitting on the shelf if you need it.  I could bring it over and return the engine hoist today if you want it.

I use Loctite 515 Master Gasket for that, it works fine.
So will any silicone sealer (gasket maker).

Steve,

I have some "miracle putty" that goes on soft and dries hard. Can be used on just about any surface . Would that work for you? You are welcome to swing by and pick it up if you think it'd work.

Edit: May be too permanent now thinking about it

      Thanks

Kristina

Had to take off the intake manifold today to swap carbs from one that I had borrowed (Thanks Nick Upton), and when I removed the manifold a small piece of the manifold gasket facing came with it.  Not an entire piece of gasket, just the part of the facing about half the size of a thumbnail.

When I reinstalled the new carb I could immediately tell there a was an intake vacuum leak in that area, confirmed by spraying some starting fluid at it.

I had used some Permatex aviation form a gasket on it and it has workd in these kind of situations before, but it had all flowed out - apparently I haven't been stiring it as I used it and the remaining half bottle is too watery to seal anything anymore, I would like to try something else this time.

I REALLY don't want to go to the effort to take off the engine steadies, and the exhaust, just to replace the whole gasket for that one little flaw, I think its a prime candidate for just a dab of something to seal the little flaw in the gasket face.

My question is, what should I used to seal it up?  Permatex ultra black RTV seems like the obvious choice.  I'm talking just a dab big enough to seal the uneven gasket area so I can get my baby on the Road for the inaugural SMOG meeting - I have it all apart now and ready to go back together but I won't be able to work on it tomorrow or Monday, leaving only Tuesday night to sort it out.
