No, you can do it with the engine in the car.

My Mini's are un-officially sponsored by Coor's brewing company.

Thanks again Todd. Do you have to remove the whole engine to adjust the bands?

Hopefully I'll start figuring who's who eventually!

You may try adjusting the bands, it may or may not help the slip. Pretty simple job, just have to remove the front plate and make sure you get a new gasket. Mine slips sometimes from 3rd to 4th so the band adjustment wouldn't do mine any good. You can get the oil filters at Mini Mania. It's a messy job and you have to take out the grille first. Todd (different Todd than the AA trans guru).

As I understand it, due to the much higher presssures of the auto trans, spin on or remote filter conversions will not work.

Todd is the Guru, also there is an MG 1100 owner here on the board (sorry can't rember the name) that knows alot about rebuilding them.  The slip is a isgn that one of the clutch dics is starting to go.

Change that oil religiously every 1K miles!

Steve

You will learn more about Minis by driving one for 30 minutes than if you read every book written about them.

Todd Miller's ADO16 web site:

http://www.austinamericausa.com/

Go there and have a look around. Same automatic tranny as the Mini's. Like I said, he's the automatic guru in the states.

Thanks Todd! That answers that.

Where do you get your filters? I want to make sure I but the right ones. Off the subject slightly, I'm getting about 35 mpg. Should I be getting more. I know the previous owner had some mileage issue that were related to having the wrong throttle body in the carb. Any insight would be appreciated.

Any words of wisdom on the automatic? Mine does a funny slip/rev right after it shifts from first to second.

Nope, that is for a manual trans. The auto has the canister that is mounted horizontally because there is very little room at the front of the subframe. I haven't seen a conversion kit for the auto and if you find one let me know.

The automatic is a different animal. No personal experience but I believe the pressures are much higher and no spin on conversion is available.
Hopefully someone will chime in with ADO16's (Todd) contact info. He's the automatic guru here in the States.

I currently have the old canister type oil filter for my '93 automatic. Has anyone put on one of the spin on conversion kits?  http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/MMKT0038/AddedFrom/Search2%2DOIL%20FILTER/InvDetail.cfm
