If anyone else can offer input and we can get a concensus, I'd feel more confident.
That conversion looks interesting and like it would likely work-- I just don't know about how the oil flows through the normal filter design to now if I would risk burning things up trying the conversion. At the moment, it's my wife's commuter. She loves it.
Traditional auto trans wisdom is to check fluid level when hot idling in park, but with a Mini, I don't know - Anyone with an original owner's manual out there to clue us in? I have a later model owner's manual at home, can check to see if it includes auto trans oil checking instructions tonight.

Does one check the oil level with a warm engine (after running through the gears so the torque convverter is full of oil) or with a cold engine that's been sitting a while? I guess there's a third choice-- with a running engine. There's nearly a quart difference between freshly warm and overnight cold.
Has anyone tried the spin on filter adapter available for tr3 and tr4 as seen on ebay ? They use the same gfe104 filter, I understand.
