Would I be able to avoid all the headache if I just ordered a new kit? Maybe something with a new back plate and all the goodies? The drums are pretty rusted, so I could use some new ones. Money isn't too much of a problem, however I don't want to go over-board (like putting discs back there). Thanks for the info guys, I'll try to measure when I get home from work. The fronts are disc now, but they were retro-fitted. It actually came with front drums. How do I measure the cylinders? From what to what? Allan / 08 Magnetic Black 350Z NISMO (#0831) / 08 Montego Blue 335I E90 / 76 Maroon Austin Mini 1000 SPECIAL (export)

Do you have drum or disk brakes up front? If drums up front then 3/4" is good for rear. If disks, do you have an adjustable brake bias valve? (most likely not) If not make sure you get the right sized rear cylinders (plural) for your brake setup. Do not use 3/4" on Mini with front disks without adjustable brake bias. Reason, under hard braking, especially on loose or wet surface, rear wheels will lock up and you'll swap ends faster than you can say "gee whiz"! A mistake we made on our first Mini build and which my son and his Mini survived in rush hour traffic when going to university years ago.

There are several different sizes of r/w cyl. To prevent the wrong one being fitted (giving un-even braking), a roll is fitted in the cyl, which fits a hole in the backplate. Different size cyls have the pin in different places, with matching holes in the backplate.
All fine until the backplate is changed for whatever reason.
But basically, measure the piston size. You've a choice of 0.500", 0.562", 0.625", 0.687" but the most common as Cheleker says is 0.75".

Likely 3/4". Pull the piston out of one and measure it.

Can't seem to determine the right rear wheel cylinder for my car. It's a 1976 Mini 1000 Special (export) from Germany (LHD). Any ideas from our host's large variety? Is there a way to measure what I have to ensure I get the right one? Thanks! Allan / 08 Magnetic Black 350Z NISMO (#0831) / 08 Montego Blue 335I E90 / 76 Maroon Austin Mini 1000 SPECIAL (export)
