Easily Add Power with Tunit Tuning
Tunit provides an efficient and adaptable method of enhancing a vehicles performance (power and torque) without the need to alter the vehicles original equipment or programming. The advantages of the Tunit are; adjustment for optimum efficiency (both manually, by the customer and electronically, via a PC by a distributor), flexibility, as in movement from one vehicle to the next and ease of installation. The principle of Tunit is to provide all these advantages that previous methods of tuning such as EPROM replacement and "flashing" or OBD tuning could not.

Blue, Review the Tech Info I suggested. You'll see at least 2 different 18 tooth pinions and three different 62 tooth crown wheels. As pixie said, you can't mix and match.

the gears are put togther as sets , you can not take any 18  and put it to any 62   some gears are the same but many are diffrent diamiters .   some gears gave part numbers which you can use to determin if they are a set.

Gents,

I found the Guessworks site to be very useful , however i'm trying to mesh a 18 tooth pinion with a 62 tooth pinion crown wheel  to gain a 3.444 fd, but it locks up....

donsobering  i'm  going with a 17 /62  gearing to get a 3.647 fd with the 13's .. this should give me an okay all round performance as my redline  is around 6500rpm

Thanks for the help

Don't forget that with 13" wheels the tyre aspect drops accordingly to maintain the same rolling diameter.
To all intents & purposes, a Sportspack is geared the same as a Mk1...

The best all round FD depends entirely on personal choice.
I have std 3.76 FDs in my Elfs, and ran a 3.44 in the estate quite happily. Once I get the new engine & 'box broken in I'll be able to comment on the 3.1 I've fitted to it, but I'm expecting it to be more economical at the expense of acceleration and quite acceptable just like the others.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Guys He said "with 13 inch wheels". 3.9 or 3.7 are the only ratios you could consider. 2.76 and 13's would give you a 60 MPH 1st gear.

I agree the 2.76   would be right    minis were always  geared to low . ie you rev to much.

For checking various combinations, this site is good:

http://www.guess-works.com/Gearbox/ratio.htm

and one of the Calver articles is here:

As Chuck said it depends on your use of the car. I have been happy with the 3.1 in my car, but I was coming from a 2.76

Lots of information under Articles on this site. Try Calver's Corner.

Final drive depends upon the car's use.

Various Final Drives are made by using matching sets of crownwheel and pinions of different tooth counts right?

is there a site . or can someone list the combinations gear teeth and which final drive it would yeild?

Also , what would be the best allround fd  to use on a  1275 with stage 1 mods , running 13" wheels?

Thanks
