Ok, thanks, I'll try to loosen it back up before I buy the KAD shifter. Don't want to spend the money if it won't shift any better than what I have. My Mini's are un-officially sponsored by Coor's brewing company.

Norm, my remote shifter does the same thing after all warmed up. I assumed it was something tranny related like worn bearings or clearances. dan

I used to think that I had it all figured out with the rod shift and KAD shifters, but the more I drive around with one installed (I sprung for the more expensive, lift collar for reverse, kind), the more I respect that the rod change NEEDS to have slop in it.
When you try to tighten it up it binds.
I have rebuilt my old shift housing with new bushings, machined different clearances in it, and finally gone so far as to buy a brand new, never installed, Rover factory housing. All of them feel the same with a "quick shifter" installed: stiff and balky.
I have tried several different experiments attempting to defy this fact, but am beginning to accept it for what it is: the mini shift system is not that great, and no amount of fancy quick shift is going to change that. I would love to, now, drive a well restored remote shift because I bet it is better.
Ah, well.
My advice is to loosen it back up, and, I am likely to reinstall my original shift lever and give up on the quick shift altogether, maybe, one of these days. On initial start up it is always fine, but after things have heated up it binds and makes shifting a thing that must be done with thought and care to do smoothly.

I have the quick change shifter that you have to cut the old shifter off for parts. It shifted fine, then I noticed the aluminum collar that bolts over the shifter box was loose. So I drilled and tapped new bolts until everything is tight. Now it is very hard to shift. So the question is, do I need the better KAD shifter, or do I need to loosen up the bolts so it has some movement, or do I have other issues (let's limit my issues to the mini, not women and beer please)? It is a rod change shifter. Thanks in advance, I'm lost here and I don't remember if the shifter parts were meant to be loose when I first put them in.
