Waste of money IMO. Bosch Super or NGK ftw!

I too think that the bosch FI keeps up well.... At least as often as I'm putting super unleaded in this thing!  Naaa, I have no chip or anything other than an airbox style K&N. ( That and the uber expensive 2 pc exhaust manifold to combat the cracking 1 piece versions problems! )

I tried them, terrible combination! Minis don't like Boschs. Could have something to do with the bombings in the 40s

Idles and pulls OK but burps and misfires at 4500 and up.

Are you running any chip at all? If not something to richen up the top end might not be a bad idea, though frankly the K-jet does a pretty good job all by itself...

HMMM, 1.5 bar, should I also do the chip when doing this: I'm getting visions of quickness.  But since I'm in a 200 10 valve, that's not really possible!!  Way too much weight for that!

I'm sure they were marginal in the 4kq and that any positive charge (which really increases the plug load in any car) was just too much for them. But they came in it, ran well, so I left them alone.

 As long as you don't mind routine changes, the W7DTC's are the best performing plugs I ran.

My hot UrQ was a mixed bag... I was running an IA boost kit on it, along with a smaller K24 turbo. Great for the street, but it was only good for about two laps at the track before everything was heat soaked and I was making zero power (125-130 down the straight at Blackhawk on the first lap, 80mph on the third). The factory K26 was better about not charge heating, but gave you the "thousand one, thousand  two, thousand three, POWER!" turbo lag of my stock UrQ (which in stock form in US spec was actually not a very good car for nearly the price of a Ferrari 308...)

The pain versus pleasure ratio (both as high as any car I've ever owned) finally swayed too much one way and I sold the cars... and have regretted it since. I'd buy my '85 back in a heartbeat if I found it for sale.... or a 3B transplant....

I just came across a new 1.5bar wastegate spring if you want to give it a try...

Yeah, I am running the w7dtc plugs, the standard from blau when buying the Kit. I'm only way down at 1.3 bar though.  Perhaps a new turbo in the future will make me start to mod things up a bit! Interesting that your 4K could take the platinums. I wonder if this could poss be related to the turbo charged intake charge?  Well, anyhow, way off topic now.

I too have heard good things about ngk in Minis.

Since you mentioned it, I thought ti was irnoic that the only vehicle that seemed to really like the Bosch platinums was my Audi 4000Q!

My urQ, however, was keenly "plug aware". It would run with the platinums until any positive boost, then it would stumble violently and refuse to rev any higher. With Bosch Supers it wuld run fine up to factory boost levels, but anything above that was troublesome. The DTC Supers (three electrodes) would run safely to 18psi (as high as I ever ran it) but would only last about 10,000 miles. The Bosch Platins ($25/plug) weren't quite as "sharp" as the DTCs, but were still running reliably 30,000 miles later when the head cracked....

 I second Bill on the Bosch Supers.  You can't get a better plug for the older audis, and I too have heard of less than stellar performance about the platinums.

I don't like to run Bosch Platinums in anything... very poor plug IMO. (Though the Bosch Supers, Super Plus, and uber-expensive Platins are great plugs). NGK is likely the best choice for quality alone; Bosch Supers are likely the best when you factor in cost.

Platinums run "okay" in a lot of cars and not well at all in others... but even in applications where they run "okay" a cheap Bosch Super has already run just as well (and even better in most cases).
