wrenchhead, not all "quick shifts" are alike. For one thing, there are genuine KAD shifters and there are imitations. There are also quick shifts for rod change and remote. I realize that it's not always true that a more expensive part is better than a cheaper part, but sometimes it is. Racers are generally more critical about how things work and those I have spoken to are very happy with their rod change KAD units.

I hate those quick shifters too, always seem to cause problems for me in every vehicle i have tried them in. Maybe bleed the slave cylinder if it still does it after you try what DR.MINI said, and change back to the OEM shifter.sometimes if you remove the arm from the slave cylinder you may have to bleed the slave after. It just happened to me yesterday is why i know this in a 90 model mini, and also my honda powered mini doesnt like to down shift to 2nd gear if the clutch isnt mashed all the way down to the floor, but mine is a cable clutch on honda mini and i need to adjust it a little more when it does this. http://austinmini.ositech.net/Hosting/WrenchHead/wrenchhead.htm 1996 silverbullet limited edition @ tim's aka (wrenchhead on MM board) year-to-date progress > photos > see photos here: http://s58.photobucket.com/albums/g251/pologround/test/Silverbullet%20mini/

Will it shift properly if you put the OEM shifter back in place? Eric has a quick shift on his race Mini and I hate the stupic thing. To me, it is hard to find gears/easy to mis-shift. If it ain't broke, WHY FIX IT?

if the gearbox is rod-change, it is most definitely a 4-synchro. I don't know if or how you can tell the year of the engine, but you can tell if it is the later, A plus, version if your block has "ribbing" in the sides of it to strengthen and stiffen the block. Maybe someone else knows how to determine the engine's year, but it shouldn't be too important as long as you know if it's pre-A plus or A plus and if it has tappet covers or not. Good luck.

I bought the shifter from the host (C-22A1751) The Engine/Trans was bought used. I think 1st gear is Synchro and it had a mount for a crank fired Ign. It did not have a serial plate on the block but it is 1275cc. Any other way to tell the year of the engine? Bill

Probably due to the Quick-Shift but could be shift forks and/or synchros. How many miles on the transmission? Is it a 90s Mini in which transmissions are reported to wear out prematurely?

I just got the car running. After adjusting the clutch the car shifts OK up the gears. However when down shifting from 3rd to 2nd it will not engage. If you push it into first it will then go into 2nd. The car has the Quick shifter for the rod type. Any suggestions to fix? Bill
