I think I've got a new hero! Over 5500 miles in an 850 Moke, pulling a camper, ALONE! Of course, we were all along for the ride in spirit. Thanks for the ride, Bob! The pleasure wasn't ALL yours! Did you remember to get a speedometer shot at the end? And thanks to minigma for keping us posted. "Hang on a minute lads....I've got a great idea."

Glad you are home safe Bob-thanks for all the photos and the trip reports. I nominate you for the "longest trip taken in a 850 Moke" award....and towing a trailer as well! Eric SCUM #2. "Life is too short to own just one classic Mini!"

Ok last upload of 31 pics . http://photobucket.com/mokenusa2008 quote from email. from Bob THIS IS OF LARRY HOLLOWAY RACING AT A NEW TRACK IN MELVILLE NJ ENDOURA HE WAS FIRST IN CLASS 15 OVERALL, BEAT BY THREE NASCAR TRUCKS, COBRA, CORVETTES. SUNDAY RACE FRIST IN CLASS AND 6TH OVERALL. NICCE NEW TRACK. LARRY HAD A 1293 IN HIS MINI. REO THIS IS THE END OF THE PIXS OF MOKEN USA I LEFT THE RACE WAY AFTER LARRY RAN ON SUNDAY AND STARTED HOME GOT ON THE CAPE MAY FERRY AND LANDED IN DE AND THE STARTED TO DRIVE TO YORKTOWN VA BUT IT WAS LONGER THAN I PLANED SO I ONERNIGHTED IN POCOMOKE,MD IN A MOKE.. NEXT DAY I DROVE TO RON GRAHAMS FOR ANOTHER OVERNIGHT. RON AND WIFE ,HOWERED COLLINS AND I HAD DINNER TOGETHER AND LOTS OF MINI TALK. HOPE I TALK RON INTO GETTING HIS RACE CAR OUT FOR THE 50 YEAR OF THE MINI. I LEFT YORKTOWN IN THE MORNING AND MISSED THE BEST PIX OF ALL. AS I WAS GOING INTO THE TUNNEL UNDER NORFOLK BAY A AIRCRAFT CARRIER WAS GOING OVER ME. I DROVE FOR 10 HRS (450) MILES USING THE FREE FERRY IN NC AND MADE IT TO SC FOR OVERNIGHT. THE NEXT DAY WAS THE LONGEST DRIVE 502 MILES. I HAD ONLY TWO RAIN DELAYS OF A TOTAL 1 HOUR IN THE FULL 6322 MILES IN THE MOKE TWOING THE TRAILER. IN THE LAST PART IN MOKE WAS 62 TO 65 ON THE I-95 AT 3800 RPMS. NOT BAD FOR THE ORIGNAL 850. THATS ALL FOLKS REO The Stars and Stripes Mini Page

And if it's anything like my experience, there won't be any apology for waylaying his travels and wasting his time. While I sat sweating in 100 degree weather, my Trooper was in his air conditioned car making a call back to headquarters.

Whoa...considering he was taking the beach route, if he's already in Myrtle Beach, he made really good time today. The only cop story I have is the one I previously mentioned about the pull over in New Hampshire. Nothing more to report on that except for the part when Bob was very slowly and methodically rumaging through the vehicle for the registration, while the trooper was looking on. He tried real hard to make sure the cop was absolutely certain that it wasn't a gun he was digging for.

After appropriately spending last night in Pocomoke City, Md. (pronounced Poke-O-Moke) Bob is hunkered down for the night in southeastern, VA., and is headed towards the Outer Banks of North Carolina tomorrow via a ferry. We spent the evening together with Lois and Ron Graham (formerly of 7 Enterprises) messing around a bit with Ron's hot rods before doing a dinner cruise in two MINI's. So far on this little jaunt Bob's covered 5,250 miles in the Moke and hasn't driven in the rain once. He's looking fit as a fiddle.

That may be possible, Quick. He had to dig all the papers he had to prove that it was not a golf cart. The Stars and Stripes Mini Page

I think Bob and I are setting a new trend here and a unique club of sorts.

Looks like Bob hit storms similar to the ones we hit coming back in the Moke from MMW. We had rain coming in through the side curtains, and up and under the front of the Roof! It was like that for most of the two hour drive up the I405 and I5. Keep on Mokin' Bob..it's fun to see the journey...Mike Mini Mike. ..... - MOKE being Driven! minimikebc.tripod.com www.victoriaminis.com

Let Bob know that if he decides to take the coast route south of Jersey and Delaware, passing him thru the eastern shores of Maryland & Virginia, he's got a place to stay here in Virginia Beach after crossing the 18 mile long Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Email me if he decides to do so.
